What is VISTA?

 

VISTA Members

VISTA (Volunteers In Service To America) members mobilize community resources and increase the capacity of organizations to better address the needs of the communities in which they serve.   Examples of VISTA service responsibilities include:

  • Building infrastructure and s trengthening service coordination.
  • Developing relationships among providers to increase utilization and streamline services.
  • Raising awareness through outreach and marketing.
  • Evaluating community needs verses services offered for planning efforts.
  • Increasing sustainability by diversifying funding streams through grant writing and fundraising efforts.

VISTA members commit to full-time service for one year without outside commitments such as school or employment, and could potentially continue for up to three years if qualified.

BENEFITS

VISTA Members Receive:

  • Educational Award for College of $4,725 or $1,200 cash stipend
  • Living allowance from $800 to $949 gross per month (Depending on County Program)
  • Individual Health Insurance
  • Childcare of up to $300, if eligible
  • Possible monthly Housing Stipend (depending on County Program)
  • Current Educational Loan Deferment
  • Professional Growth and Training Opportunities
